The sedimentation challenge – homogeneous material even after extended storage

Reliable dispensing becomes a challenge when fillers settle out, because the viscosity of the media will vary and their composition will be uneven. And that is precisely where SediPrep from Atlas Copco’s Scheugenpflug product line comes in. Highly sedimented media are fully agitated under vacuum in only a short time thanks to powerful motors, ensuring bubble-free, homogeneous potting material for consistent, reliable dispensing.

SediPrep can be flexibly integrated into your production environment as a stand-alone solution for 200 liter drums. SediPrep will fully agitate any low-viscosity, self-leveling media, even ones with a high filler content. Any existing sediments, due to lengthy storage for example, will be broken up by a combination of powerful mixing tools. The 200 liter drum can be forwarded to the material handling unit as soon as preparation has been completed.

TC potting for power electronics

The requirements that electronic components have to meet with regard to thermal management and protection against environmental influences have increased significantly. Critical components have to function reliably. This is particularly true for the automotive industry and especially for the EV sector where these components are often exposed to high temperatures. This heat has to be efficiently dissipated to prevent overheating and failure. At the same time, the components have to be protected against mechanical influences, moisture and corrosion.

As a result, thermally conductive potting (TC potting)is becoming increasingly important as a means of tackling the twin challenges of protection and heat dissipation.

TC potting: material quality is the key

The materials used for potting – a combination of fluid and highly filled – contain thermally conductive fillers such as aluminum oxide that improve not only the resistance to external influences but also the thermal management of the components. This extends their service life and ensures their functionality even under extreme conditions – but only if the material quality is right. If the material is stored in large containers there is a tendency for the fillers to settle out, resulting in sedimentation, uneven viscosity and heterogeneous material composition.   SediPrep (re)homogenizes the potting material, even after lengthy storage. Uniformly and bubble-free.
